About

Ogbowuru I was the 14th Olu (king) of the Warri Kingdom, part of the Itsekiri people in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. He was the son of Akenjoye II and succeeded him around 1740, reigning until approximately 1760. His reign fell within a period when the Itsekiri were active intermediaries in trade with Europeans along the Benin River and Niger Delta, exporting slaves and later palm oil. No detailed records of his personal achievements or specific events during his rule have survived; historical knowledge is limited to his place in the royal lineage.
