About

Akenjoye II is traditionally named as the 13th Olu (ruler) of the Warri Kingdom, a pre-colonial Itsekiri state in the Niger Delta region of present-day Delta State, Nigeria. The Olu title is the highest traditional authority among the Itsekiri people, with a lineage tracing back to the late 15th century. By the early 18th century, the kingdom was deeply involved in Atlantic trade, particularly in slaves and later palm oil, while maintaining complex diplomatic relations with neighboring Benin and European merchants.
