About

Osei II, also recorded as Ossai or Ossai of Aboh, was the 12th Obi of the Aboh Kingdom, an Ukwuani state in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. His reign, spanning approximately 1845 to 1880, placed him at the helm of a strategically vital commercial power on the lower Niger River. He was the son of Obi Agwe, inheriting a throne that had long presided over the region's trade networks. Aboh’s location allowed it to control trade between the hinterlands and European merchants on the coast, a role Osei II maintained during a transformative period when the export of palm oil superseded the transatlantic slave trade.
