About

Agwe held the title of Obi of Aboh, the traditional ruler of the Aboh Kingdom among the Ukwuani people in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. He reigned during the first half of the nineteenth century, a period when the kingdom was actively engaged in trade along the Niger River, including the waning transatlantic slave trade and the growing palm oil commerce. As the 11th occupant of the throne, he succeeded his father Ugbo. The Aboh Kingdom was a significant regional power, serving as an intermediary between the interior markets and European traders on the coast.
