About

Idibia I, also known as Idibiah or Eze Idibia, was the first Asagba of Asaba, the traditional ruler of the Asaba Kingdom in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. He belonged to the Enuani (Anioma) people. His reign began in 1918 when the British colonial administration appointed him as a warrant chief, effectively establishing the modern Asagba institution under the indirect rule system. Idibia I held the title until his death around 1938, laying the foundational legacy for the traditional leadership that continues to govern Asaba. Little is recorded of his personal life, but his role as the inaugural Asagba marks a significant point in the kingdom’s chieftaincy history.
