About

Anyagbara was the second ruler of Asaba, succeeding his father Nnebisi, the founder of the kingdom. He belonged to the Enuani (Anioma) people of present-day Delta State, Nigeria. His reign is placed approximately between 1650 and 1680, a period during which the nascent Asaba settlement continued to consolidate its identity along the western bank of the Niger River. As the son of Nnebisi, Anyagbara inherited the leadership of a community that traced its origins to a migration from Igala or Benin, and his rule helped to establish the hereditary line that would evolve into the Asagba stool.
