About

Ogenu is recorded in oral traditions as the eighth Obi (king) of Aboh, an Ukwuani kingdom located in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. The Aboh monarchy emerged around the 17th century, and by the early 1700s its rulers controlled trade and political life along the lower Niger River. The title of Obi carries both secular and sacred authority, and individual reigns are often reconstructed from king lists passed down through generations. Details of Ogenu’s life, parentage, and specific accomplishments remain largely undocumented beyond his placement in the succession.
