About

The Obi of Aboh is the traditional ruler of the Aboh Kingdom, an Ukwuani community in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. The kingdom traces its foundation to the 16th century, when a prince from the Benin Empire established a new dynasty in the western Niger Delta. The obi holds both political and spiritual authority, serving as the custodian of custom and the welfare of the people. Early royal genealogies are preserved primarily through oral tradition, and while the names of successive obis are remembered, detailed biographical information about the earliest rulers is extremely scarce. The fifth obi, Akazue, is listed in these lineages. His reign likely occurred in the early 17th century, a period of gradual consolidation for the young kingdom, but no reliable specifics of his life, policies, or achievements have come down through history.
