About

Obi Ifechukwude Chukuka 'Aninshi' Okonjo II is the traditional ruler (Obi) of the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. He ascended the throne in September 2019 following the death of his father, Obi (Professor) Chukuka Okonjo, and is the brother of former Finance Minister and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. He received his official staff of office from the Delta State Government in October 2019 as the 13th monarch of the ancient kingdom. His reign has been marked by a long legal battle to reclaim the ancestral palace, which he took possession of after roughly 23 years (a 150-year kingship tussle), as well as recent controversy including land-grabbing allegations that the community has publicly rejected.
