About
Joseph Chike Edozien (28 July 1924 – 7 February 2024) was a Nigerian traditional ruler and distinguished academic who served as the 13th Asagba (King) of Asaba in Delta State, Nigeria. He ascended the throne in 1991 and reigned until his death at age 99 in February 2024. Before becoming king, he was a professor of medicine and the first Nigerian dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ibadan, and later worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a direct descendant of Nnebisi, the founder of Asaba, and held the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
