Ezechi II
About
Ezechi II was the 14th Dein (traditional monarch) of Agbor Kingdom, a pre-eminent Ika (Anioma) state in what is now Delta State, Nigeria. His reign, estimated from around 1860 to 1890, placed him at the head of the kingdom during a period when European missionary and trading activities were beginning to penetrate the hinterlands of the Niger Delta, although direct colonial control had not yet been imposed on Agbor. As Dein, Ezechi II would have overseen the kingdom’s political and spiritual life, upholding the customary laws and traditions of the Ika people. The Dein’s authority derived from ancient royal lineages and was central to social order, conflict resolution, and diplomatic relations with neighboring communities. While specific events of his personal rule are not widely documented in written records, his name is preserved in the oral king lists of Agbor as a ruler of the late pre-colonial era.
